A collection of three award-winning literary short stories exploring the impact of love. “A Stranger in the Village,” nominated for the 2007 Pushcart Prize, describes how the arrival of a young woman into a Mexican mountain village changed sixteen-year-old Hector forever. “Sacrifice” offers an Aztec tale of political intrigue and love. Doña Rosa, a market-place curandera, assists the lovelorn through the heartache of love and infidelity.
--“A fine and engaging story,” Phil Hey, editor, Briar Cliff Review

I was very impressed by Ms. Sherwood-Fabre's engaging style and attention to detail. The stories are wonderfully crafted and I read them in one sitting. The characters were complex and multi-dimensional--I was immediately drawn to the tragic Ixchell in "The Sacrifice," to Hector in "Stranger in the Village" and to Rosa in "Curandara." I've ordered SAVING HOPE and am looking forward to more books and short stories from this very talented writer.Product details

Three literary stories that I enjoyed very much. My favorite is Curandera (which is spanish for a wise-woman or a folk-healer). It was fascinating to watch the interaction of three women, as Ms Sherwood-Fabre masterfully unwound a story from behind the curandera's viewpoint.
Ah, sigh, love can be so painful.
This is a talented author. I'm sure we will see more from her in the future. She has already garnered some impressive awards Stranger in the Village was nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
After reading this short story collection I decide to try Ms. Sherwood's novel Saving Hope. It is excellent so far! I can't believe it - it's like I'm there, in Russia, with this mother trying to save her daughter, and dealing with the horrible health care system. And I haven't even gotten to the spy part yet.
And to think, I almost didn't buy it because of the title. Don't let the cheesy title make you miss out on this fabulous novel. Sherwood's personal experience living in Russia is evident, and contributes to the story feeling so realistic. Her skills as a writer show in the deft selection of detail she chooses to paint each scene. The book is so well done and vivid, that as a reader I find myself carried away. That's good writing! And excellent storytelling.
