By moving through the basics of human knowledge and then beyond, Fatemi lays a foundation for the relationship of consciousness and spirituality. For some readers this book might seem to take a huge leap from the concepts of the physical world to those of the esoteric nature of love and the episode of life. On the other hand, if the reader has a bit of background in the rudiments of consciousness or if he or she is open to those ideas, Fatemi's philosophical approach may seem perfectly plausible. In either case, the reading will be stimulating, at times challenging, and always enlightening.

To begin with, Fatemi distinguishes between two paths at the fork in the road--"One path ends up nowhere except to fulfill the desires of our egoistic mind, and the other path is subject to dropping the egoistic mind and entering into a journey of freedom for higher understanding. He is dualist- self-realization vs. selfless-realization. His quest is to explore the edges of human consciousness, beyond egoistic mind and spiritual consciousness to the creation of consciousness, with the aspiration of understanding and explaining the creation of the universe.
Scientific knowledge in itself, according to Fatemi, is inadeguate for this quest.
"Within every single occurrence," he concludes, "there is birth, duration, and termination, no matter if it is a plant or a galaxy."
The Episode of Life looks at consciousness in the context of a mysterious in the context of a mysterious universe that Carl Rogers once suggested What is most personal and intimate is also most universal.
